“Clown Capers” and “Jestorians”

Music, magic, puppets and storytelling come alive when “Clown Capers” or “Jestorians” hit the stage! As either clowns or jesters, the multi-talented duo of Roland and Carol Ann Owens provides lively, interactive entertainment for both family concerts and school assemblies. Original puppets and songs compliment their curriculum-enhancing programs. The Voracious Reader Eater® whets the appetite for reading while Wanted: O.K. Kids promotes self-esteem and encourages children to become “Outrageously Keen, Confident Kids!” Science takes on new interest when Prof. Ein-Swine reveals that Magic is Science! To promote their messages beyond the stage, they have PIPS and TIPS (Parent or Teacher Involvement Packages) available for all programs.

“We make learning FUN!” is the mission statement of this quick-witted troupe of actor-educators, dedicated to energizing your students’ creativity! The Takeoff Show creates brand-new stories from the audience’s suggestions—and students go back to class rarin’ to write! The Skywriter Show is a world-premier production of students’ stories—wacky costumes, music and sound effects turn authors into stars! The Maps Ahoy! and America Ahoy! Geographical Adventure Series sails with a pirate crew . . . kids learn all about this wonderful world! Unique Techniques is an acclaimed teachers’ in-service.

 


Chris Linn, Magical Entertainer

Chris Linn blends magic, comedy and audience participation into an energetic family show, Cool Tricks/Funny Stuff. Called the “Jim Carrey of magic,” by FEVER magazine, he has entertained from New York to Las Vegas and from Iron Mountain to Monroe. Additionally, he has performed extended runs in Tahiti, Puerto Rico and the Bahamas. Recently, Chris was nominated for the “Guiding Light” award, presented to positive role models for America’s youth.


 


Dynamike the Magician

Dynamike is one of Michigan’s leading children’s magicians. He has been dazzling audiences of all ages for over 25 years. His highly professional acts include sleight of hand, live trained animals, mystifying illusions and audiences participation. But what really sets Dynamike apart from all other magic acts is his inspiring motivational messages that are part of his magic performances. His motivational acts have been dubbed the “Magical Motivator.”o 


 


Face to Face Productions, Ltd.

Face to Face Productions produces original, curriculum-based musical plays for young audiences (K–6). In The George Washington Follies, the father of our country is visited by leaders of the past who help him find the strength and self-confidence to become President. The Wright Stuff follows the Wright brothers through their inspiring childhood to their historic first flight. The mystery Cover To Cover finds Sherlock Holmes using his investigative skills to uncover what makes “fiction so fascinating.” Audiences can join Lewis & Clark on the adventure of a lifetime to learn the value of collaboration and teamwork. Words to the Wise literally brings the dictionary to life! Other shows include Ben & Me, Edison and Alexander Graham Bell.

Jerry Jacoby, Kid Motivator

Real character is no accident! Jerry Jacoby’s professional comedy, music and audience-involving antics encourage students in self-esteem, respect, honesty, courtesy and responsibility. The combined experience of over 4,500 school and family performances and 14 years as an educator has taught Jacoby the heart of children. Jerry Jacoby knows his audience. He connects with them. He offers four different elementary shows as well as two popular middle school programs dealing with peer pressure and decision-making.

 


Magic Carpet Theatre

A handful of dynamic performers, a bag of books, a scarf and a couple of hats . . . Imagination is the key to Magic Carpet Theatre, inspiring young readers and writers for a decade. Children listen to the stories with their hearts, howl from their guts and participate creatively with their hands and minds. “This is the finest representation of what literature can be and do that I have ever seen.” (Kim Stanley, Northwood School)

 


Marc Thomas

Singer/ventriloquist Marc Thomas and his hilarious puppet buddy, Max the Moose, have performed their energetic shows at schools, libraries, festivals and theatres throughout the Great Lakes area, including MSU’s Wharton Center, Midland Center, Detroit’s Youtheatre and the Flint Youth Theatre. Powerful and interactive elementary school assemblies available in the Pathway Success series motivate student self-esteem, positive choices, character and reading (including Camp Read: a truly unique combination of human and puppet theatre).

Marcey Walsh: Highly Contagious Education

Learning with drama, fun and lots of audience participation is “highly contagious!” Students solve a “Math Mystery” with Detective Numero or investigate math in history. Science programs explore science of sound and music (with water balloons and space phones!), science of sports or molecular theory (with an anti-smoking/drug message). All assemblies are interactive and adaptable for elementary/middle schools. “Your presentations go beautifully with our curriculum! As always, a great show!” (Beechnau Elementary) Staff development and parenting programs available.

 


Michigan Youth Theater

“I could do that!” Theater is always exciting . . . theater with young actors is inspiring! Members of the Michigan Youth Theater (ages 7–17) share their love for Shakespeare and performing with Michigan kids of all ages. Shakespeare is Fun and American Folktales and Legends engage younger audiences while encouraging reading. High school students finally “get” Shakespeare through interactive presentations of his plays by actors their own age! Workshops available. “Your kids are awesome!” (Michigan Renaissance Festival)

Playaround Shakespeare

Playaround Shakespeare introduces 7th through 12th grade students to the works of Shakespeare in an entertaining way. In this 50-minute production, five actors in rehearsal clothing, using minimal props, cleverly discuss and present scenes from Shakespeare’s best-loved plays. Playaround was originally created by five actors (including John Neville-Andrews) from the Folger Theatre in Washington, D.C., in 1981. The Michigan Shakespeare Festival, located in Jackson, added this production to its educational outreach efforts this year.

 


September Productions

September Productions brings classic children’s literature to life with shows like The Velveteen Rabbit, Tom Sawyer and The Reluctant Dragon. Original scripts, music and stagings have been entertaining audiences, pre-schoolers through adults, for the past eight years. Principals, teachers and librarians all over Michigan say these productions are the best they have seen. The Livonia Observer proclaimed the shows “a must-see” for children and adults.

The Actors’ Company: Discover the Magic of Live Theatre

Imagination comes in all shapes and sizes when The Actors’ Company takes the stage and delivers an ever-widening spectrum of theatre magic. The history of The Actors’ Company runs the gamut of American musical and children’s theatre, offering touring shows to fit any performance venue. From school gymnasiums to grand opera houses, The Actors’ Company has filled them with smiles, packed them with energy and charged them with emotion. The Actors’ Company has an impressive list of credits, including The Wizard of Oz, Cinderella, The Emperor’s New Clothes, Alice in Wonderland and School House Rock–Live.

The Spirit of Harriet Tubman

The Spirit of Harriet Tubman, a one-woman play written and performed by Leslie McCurdy, tells the story of the life of Harriet Tubman from her earliest experiences as a slave through her work on the Underground Railroad to her later years. A finalist for a 1999 Chalmers Award for “Best New Play for Young Audiences” (grades five and up) and a favorite of the Rosa Parks Institute for Self Development, it is a powerful, must-see performance.

Wild Swan Theater

Wild Swan Theater, nationally recognized for its ingenious artistry, has been delighting family audiences since 1980 with performances that blend storytelling, movement and music into magical, accessible experiences. All productions feature original scripts drawn from beloved tales and multicultural traditions. Handmade props, puppets and masks, along with dance and original music, create scenes that excite the imagination. These are performances that charm the adult while engaging the child, ages four and up. Family and school programs with study guides are also available. American Sign Language is incorporated into many performances. Audio-description and backstage visits are available for the visually impaired.
