Conga Se Menne

Conga Se Menne is America's one and only Finnish reggae band. From the central Upper Peninsula, the group has somehow defined its own genre, which blends tropical vibrations, the warm call of steel pans and the sweaty pulse of conga drums—with soulful and sometimes humorous reminiscences of life in the northwoods. Their first album, Finnish Reggae & Other Sauna Beats, made it to the "best of" list in Beat Magazine and gained the group an international following among world, island and eclectic music lovers. Whether the audience is amused by tall tales of the great north or simply into the rhythmic vibes of calypso, Latin and reggae, Conga Se Menne will make people smile or dance for all the right reasons.

Second Nature String Band

"Second Nature lights up the phrase, 'pickin & grinnin.' They make happy music that takes you right with it. I was smilin' 'til my cheeks hurt!" said Carey Carlson, host of Over Easy, WCXS, Detroit. David Gerow, who plays mandolin, has performed on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Crook & Chase, and Nashville Now. Andy Varner, Michigan's state fiddle champion, has opened for John Anderson, Alabama, The Dixie Chicks, and many others. Nick Calandro, one of Detroit's premier bassists, has been featured at the Montreaux Jazz Festival as well as on numerous recordings. Guitarist Bob Gerics has accompanied a wide variety of stars from Martha Reeves to Tom Paxton with a little Mitzi Gaynor in between. Together, they perform a brand of instrumental music that can only be described as "Bluegazz."
